Custodian - ICEF Inglewood

Position Description: The school Custodian plays an essential role in maintaining the building and physical plant, and supporting a learning environment that promotes health, attitude and pride of students. In addition to regular building maintenance functions, the school custodian provides direct support to classroom teachers in set up and maintenance of furniture and equipment. The school custodian also serves as a role model for students by displaying a professional, courteous, and helpful nature. Assists in campus security as necessary. Reporting: Reports to: This position reports to the Principal, Assistant Principal, or School Operations Manager. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Pay Cycle: 12 months Salary: Commensurate with Experience ($15-24/hour) Benefits: Full Time Staff Receive Medical, Dental, vision, Life Insurance, Retirement Plan Openings: 2 ; one full-time day shift ; one part-time night shift Essential Functions: BUILDING MAINTENANCE 30% 1. • Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, and refinish floors; clean, dust and polish furniture; wash windows and walls; clean restrooms; dispose of rubbish, change lights, etc.; make certain all areas of the building are kept in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition according to industry and/or district standards. 2. • Pick up litter within the schools and on school grounds. 3. • Performs minor repair and maintenance as authorized by supervisor. 4. • Removes extraneous dirt/markings from interior and exterior vertical/horizontal surfaces (walls, doors, etc.). 5. • Performs minor painting to walls, rails, playgrounds and other areas of the school. 6. • Advise building Principal/School Operations Manager on matters relating to mechanical equipment and/or building maintenance. SAFETY & COMPLIANCE 30% 1. • Assure safety during inclement weather to including providing slip protection on wet floors, securing against wind damage, and remove debris from down spouts when clogged, etc. 2. • Applies cleaning chemicals according to established safety procedures. 3. • Adheres to safety measures for cleaning, lifting, moving, and operating equipment. 4. • Secures school building to insure proper building security at all times. Lock, secure and code out building at end of shift. 5. • Initiate maintenance service requests according to organization procedures. 6. • Follows-through to assure that maintenance is performed in a timely manner. 7. • Periodically inspects, or otherwise maintains awareness of, facility and equipment to detect and prevent injuries or damage. EQUIPMENT & SUPPLY MANAGEMENT 25% 1. • Keeps all equipment in a good state of repair and cleanliness. 2. • Maintains inventory and request cleaning supplies and materials needed to accomplish assigned tasks. 3. • Maintains awareness of energy conservation and make suggestions of methods and procedures to consider energy. 4. • Secures equipment and supplies and protects against pilferage, loss, theft, or abuse. EMERGENCY PLANNING 15% 1. • Verifies that emergency equipment is maintained and repaired as need be. 2. • Assists in implementing emergency planning and response. 3. • Performs other duties as assigned. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE ● Model positive and healthy character traits and habits, including the ICEF Core Values ● Unquestioned integrity and commitment to the ICEF mission and willingness to serve the ICEF community ● Incumbents must have successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities, or have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skill in communicating with a diverse population. ● Graduation from high school or equivalent. ● Must have completed an apprenticeship or the equivalent within the specific trade/craft area. ● Must be trained in First Aid. CPR and defibrillator training may be required. ● Ability to communicate and maintain good working relations with all District employees, vendors, contractors, and public entities. ● Ability to work effectively in an environment with frequent interruptions requiring the ability to concentrate and consistently produce accurate work while responding to interruptions and changing priorities. ● Initiative and ability to work with minimal direction; sound judgment and decision making capabilities are essential. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
